The selectivity question
This is the distinction that matters against Melanotan 2, which Heritage also carries. MT-1 is the more selective of the two for MC1R, the melanocortin receptor that governs melanin synthesis. MT-2 is less selective and engages MC3R and MC4R as well — which is the basis of its broader and better-known off-target profile. Researchers choose MT-1 when they want the pigmentation pathway isolated from the rest of the melanocortin system.

Research areas
MC1R signalling and melanogenesis
Eumelanin synthesis in melanocyte models — the receptor pathway MT-1 was designed to isolate.
Photoprotection models
Investigation of UV response mediated through increased melanin density.
