MK-677, also known as ibutamoren, is a non-peptide, orally active growth-hormone secretagogue that mimics the action of ghrelin at the GHS-R1a receptor. A non-peptide ghrelin-receptor agonist

Most growth-hormone secretagogues studied in research are peptides that require reconstitution and injection. Ibutamoren is different: it is a spiropiperidine small molecule that binds the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) and, in the models studied, stimulates pulsatile growth-hormone release without suppressing endogenous production.
