The HPG axis gatekeeper
Kisspeptin-10 activates GPR54 receptors on GnRH neurons, triggering gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion and downstream LH and FSH release. This makes the kisspeptin-GPR54 system the critical upstream gate in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Receptor binding studies confirm that the decapeptide retains the full agonist potency of longer isoforms (Kp-54, Kp-14, Kp-13) — the C-terminal ten residues are where the action is.
Research applications
- GPR54/KISS1R receptor binding and activation
- GnRH neuron signaling and HPG axis studies
- LH and FSH secretion kinetics
- Comparative kisspeptin isoform structure-activity research
- Reproductive neuroendocrine pathway studies
